Atlanta, GA

7.31.2010

Today we rode a total of about 45 miles, and I was sweeping with Ryan Larson. The ride itself was pretty short, even though we had to wait for a couple people with flats. Fortunately everyone was able to finish the day. While on the ride, I tried out my new Zobmondo “Would You Rather” game. The way it works is that there are a bunch of cards with different scenarios: Would you rather be trapped in an elevator with someone who talks too much or too little, or jump into a pool filled with snakes vs. a pool filled with ants, or have a leg instead of an arm vs. an arm instead of a leg. Needless to say it was an awesome conversation.

Our lunch was sponsored by the Emory Autism group, and we had a friendship visit at Gibney’s Pub. They opened up the pool and shuffleboard tables for us, and we could even get free sodas at the bar. I was speaking for most of the day with a girl named Ally. We started talking about her job at the library, her travels with her parents this summer, and some of the musicals she likes. She learned classical guitar in high school, and realized that she really loves to sing. She’s planning to get voice lessons once her family moves to her new home in Oregon. She was one of the most interesting people I’ve spoken to on this trip, and I even taught her how to play a little bit of pool. She learned really quickly.

Later we had dinner at Dr. Lori Ebert’s home. She’s the woman in charge of Risk Management for our Fraternity. I was sitting eating my steak and baked potatoes, when Ryan Dodge and I get the idea to lead a sneak attack on the army game that her kids were playing. It turned into an all out battle, with JOH riders being resurrected as zombies and repeatedly slain by the highly trained Ebert special forces unit. Some of the other guys had fun out back on her rope swing, with plenty of videos to document the ridiculousness. We left full of plenty of steak and baked potatoes after having a great time.
